Sustainable country living within a prairie city
Creek Bend Retreat (CBR) was the original Lot 4 in the historic Creek Bend Estate community. The former berry farm is on the east bank of Winnipeg’s gentle, meandering Seine River . The well-treed 4.6 acre property currently includes an updated riverside bungalow, a septic field and garden, a river oak forest, an almost 2 acre fallow field and one acre of oxbow meadow.
CBR’s Vision 2030 concept planning is ongoing. There will be countless iterations made before the final form is formally presented to the community. Vision 2030 v1 (shown) is planner Erika Blackie’s excellent 2013 Land Use Map. Vision 2030 v2 is now being formulated. As new Team Members are onboarded CBR’s Vision 2030 will inevitably change with the addition of their valuable expertise.
The Vision 2030 v2 concept currently includes :
River House. Arguably the most exciting new home location in Precinct K, the forested half-acre River House lot is located on a gentle, scenic curve overlooking the meandering Seine River below.
Forest House 1 and 2. The two executive homes will be built adjacent to the ancient Seine River forest. Riparian forest located within the two properties will be protected by conservation easements.
Creek Bend Retreat (CBR) Lot 1 through CBR Lot 7. The seven 70-foot wide, quarter-acre lots will please custom home builders and their demanding clients . While closely following future Qualico construction guidelines for the Estate area, sustainable building practices such as geothermal heating may be included.
The Path. Part of the Seine River Greenway trail system, the Path will connect Creek Bend Retreat residents and the community to Smith Farm Coulee and the Bois-des-Esprits Forest to the north.
The Oxbow Valley. The City will obtain an acre of riparian habitat at a predetermined price of $15,000.
The Forest. Creek Bend Retreat will work with the City and with community partners on ways to preserve the half-acre of river oak and poplar forest
